Scrapbooking - the Addiction of Utah Women
So I live in Utah. I've been here just over 2 years. Last time I was introduced on scrapbooking was back in my college days - when I had 5 Utah roommates. Although I found it entertaining then, when I lived in Idaho and was trapped without a car - now I've discovered it's an obsession to many women here in Utah.
It's so insanely huge here, I'd say there are more scrapbook stores in all of Utah than there are grocery stores. After all, everyone needs their acid free paper! I'd also bet there are more small companies (starter companies if you will) in the state of Utah than any other small company. It's out of control!
When I first moved here, the wife of a friend of my husbands, got me hooked on scrapbooking again. At first, I was like, okay, I can do this once a month or something. And then it all went downhill. We went to a scrapbook store. And then we went to a scrapbook sale. Then we went go coupons! 40% off - who can say no? And then the last nail in the coffin - the discount store where scrapbook supplies go to die. That's right people, I have literally hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars of scrapbook stuff. Now I do enjoy the occassional scrapbook party, but it's definitely not my everyday thing. For me, I'm happy to throw the pictures on the paper and put a little caption of what it is.
It seems strange that someone who had no desire to scrapbook previously would suddenly spend so much money on supplies. I would bet that most scrapbookers really enjoy shopping... hence the addiction is to the shopping of supplies rather than the actual making of the scrapbook. :o

lol I hear you Lori! A friend of mine has started scrapbooking, and has roped me in. I am about to make a book up for my daughter. It also seems to be the latest craze here in Australia. I am yet to get into that "I'm crazy for scrapbooking" stage, but I am sure once I start, it will soon come haha

Yeah... you just wait until you have 100's of dollars of stuff - and that's just the containers for the scrapbooking stuff! It really can get out of control if you don't keep tabs on it. I will admit some of the stuff is pretty neat, but one decorative hole punch... how often are you going to use that 20 dollar item?
